Red Cube

Adriaan Luteijn is a video and performance artist. In his work he uses several layers of video material to create a new space. In the Bunker the works ’35:35’and ‘Red Cube’ were shown. Both videos are both fascinating and puzzling, due to their stratification and line play. Adriaan also made a new work especially for this exhibition.

Replaced Light

Krista van der Wilk is a video artist. She graduated from the Rietveld Academy in 2010, VAV (audio-visual). In her work she plays with the expectations of the viewer, by combining realistic and manipulated elements. The site-specific installation Cubebender was shown in the Bunker. In this work, the space always determines the final shape, so each version is unique. In addition, Replaced Light slowly illuminates one of the dark spaces in the Bunker

Bunkerexhibition #33 – Lingua Franca Jan Kees van Kampen, our choice KABK graduate 2017

We closed the season with a graduating student from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK): Jan Kees van Kampen (MA ArtScience). He installed his work Lingua Franca in the Bunker. In Lingua Franca, water is set in motion through sound, while flickering light is projected above it. The shapes formed by the water are determined by the frequencies of the sound and light, which are precisely calibrated in relation to one another. As these frequencies gradually shift, they create a spectacle of both stable and continuously evolving water forms. Two of these systems of materialized signals engage in a dialogue, attempting—successfully or not—to arrive at a shared language, by listening to one another. During this period, Jan Kees spent a great deal of time in the Bunker, experimenting with the installation and offering visitors explanations and demonstrations. He therefore regarded this period as a kind of small-scale residency. Rien Hagen said:’Film without a physical medium, yet comprising the same elements: image, sound and movement. And featuring water, too!

A truly unique installation. He is currently refining the installation further, and we expect to hear more from him in the future.
His installation attracted a particularly large crowd on 2 September, when a Dramtune evening featuring whisky and music was also held on the lawn at Waterkant. Many of the two hundred visitors also – quite unplanned – paid a visit to the bunker.

I think it was one of the best exhibitions we had, it suited the bunker so well.

Pop-Up Cinema, The Hague – 1st short film program in Bunker curated by Maureen Prins :

Pop Up Cinema brengt ongeziene films naar bijzondere plekken. Op 16 juni 2017 werd de Bunker even omgetoverd tot mini-bioscoop. In het kortfilm programma van artistieke korte films, kwamen zowel documentaire, animatie, fictie als experimentele films aan bod. Tijdens de openingsavond was een aantal makers aanwezig om te vertellen over hun werk. Met zo’n 20 gasten was de Bunker goed gevuld en volgden leuke gesprekken met de makers. Het programma was de dagen daarna doorlopend te zien.

Pop Up Cinema brings unseen films to unknown places. On 16 June 2017, the Bunker was transformed into a miniature cinema. The short film programme featured a diverse selection of artistic works, including documentaries, animation, fiction, and experimental films. During the opening night, several filmmakers were present to introduce their work and engage with the audience, leading to lively conversations between the filmmakers and guests. The programme remained on continuous view over the following days, allowing more visitors to see the films.

Passend bij de thema’s Tijd en Ruimte van de bunker exposities stelt Pop Up Cinema 2 x een kortfilmprogramma samen bestaande uit internationale, nationale en lokale kortfilms. Een verzameling van genres van fictie, animatie tot documentaire en experimentele film. Een aantal makers wordt uitgenodigd om aanwezig te zijn bij de filmvertoningen en zij geven inzicht in hun werkproces en inspiratie.

In keeping with the Bunker exhibition 2017 theme Time and Space, Pop Up Cinema presents two short film programmes featuring a curated selection of international, national, and local films. Several filmmakers are invited to attend the screenings, offering audiences insight into their creative process, artistic practice, and sources of inspiration.

Time: passing of time, clock, time travel, perception of time, time manipulation

Space: use of specific spaces, framing the image, public space, architecture, but also space travel and outer space.

THE EMPEROR OF TIME

Drew Christie The strange and sordid tale of Eadweard Muybridge, the man who accidentally invented motion pictures. The film is told from the point of view of Muybridge’s abandoned son and viewed completely through a nineteenth century early cinema contraption called a mutoscope.

In de film PARADE  gaan zes fanfare fluitspelers op verkenningstocht door het landschap van het uniform. Een tocht die niet verloopt zonder kleerscheuren.

Droefgeest

Angelo Raaijmakers – 12 min.
Geleid door mindfulness-meditatie, blikt een ruimtevaarder
terug op een pijnlijk moment uit zijn jeugd: toen het beeld van zijn vader veranderde door diens depressie. De krachtige gorilla voor wie hij zijn vader ooit aanzag, ging verloren door de komst van de Droefgeest.
