Bunkerexhibition #7 – Sencing Space Pascale de Backer

Sencing space -the c is deliberate- by Pascale de Backer we discovered while searching for suitable work to be shown in the bunker, at the graduation show of the Rietveld in 2007. Mario Attard came running to me in the hallway saying: ‘We found it.’

Pascale had built a wooden box in which you could lay down in soft cushions, experiencing a 20 minutes sound scape while you were emerged in red, orange, yellow, green and blue light. At the time it seemed anthroposophists coined that color scheme and Pascale felt it not the whole story.

We thought it would not be necessary to again built the wooden structure. Since the rooms in the bunker were about the same size as her wooden box. A big mistake. At the time the bunker was so humid that within a day the cushions were soaking wet and the electrical equipment of the installation wasn’t too happy either.
