Atlantic Light Wall Andries Micke

As an architect, Andries Micke graduated in 1997 with a plan for a fictional ‘pandemic prevention institute’ that would map the opportunities and dangers of modifying DNA and viruses. The institute would provide a platform for the ‘biolab-safety’ debate and regulation. Principles from microbiology were used in that architectural project to generate building forms via algorithms. Unfortunately, in reality, the safety debate surrounding DNA modifications took place—until 2020—virtually outside the public domain at conferences such as ABSA.
