Geert Jan Hobijn won the Witteveen & Bos award 2014. We asked Witteveen & Bos to sponsor his exhibition in the bunker. They did, for exactly the amount we payed Geert Jan, which I thought a bit stingy to be honest. Three weeks before the opening they asked Renato and me to also find other sponsors. Which completely surprised me. If I were a sponsor, I would like to be the only one. Renato explained the curve here below to me. Apparently we belong to the first colum and Witteveen & Bos to the fourth.

We were kind of proud that Evelina Domnitsch, Bunkerexhibition #24 -2014- and Nicky Assmann, Bunkerexhibition #29 -2016- won the award after they exhibited in our small venue. Besides they were two of the only five female winners.

Bunkerexhibition #26 – The Dawn Chorus  Nishiko & Marieke van’t Zet

Nishiko: (JP, 1981) is an artist interested in occurrences that are slightly divergent from daily life, easily overseen subjects, or accidents from which we avert our gaze. Simplicity and repetition are key elements within her practice, with which she wishes to trigger the audience to relive the experience of the moment, and to contextualise the subject into his or her own fantasy.

At first glance Marieke van Zet’s paintings are canvases of simple and unadulterated colour. Look closer and one can see that her work is more complex, often constructed with several layers of fabric and full of subtle detail. Van Zet uses a variety of materials, often found or recycled, thus stored with their own past. The pieces draw attention to the concept that any one specific moment in time is irrevocable, all that remains being our own individual [often flawed] memory. A memory that lies nestled within its own reality. Van Zet attempts to capture the intangibility of such, sometimes arbitrary moments, exploring the tension between beauty and decay and the impermanence of all that exists. The paintings can be considered as tranquil fragments of time, a product emanating from both subconscious reaction and conscious decision making.

Tamara’s best friend Vlada started dating Martijn, a tupperware host. She organised a party at her house. I loved it, always wanted to participate in one. But when I grew up my mum thought it tacky. Anyways thought it nice to organize one too. Since I like back stage more than the lime light I asked Art Jan as his alter ego Marja to be the host. She dragged me from the back of the bunker into the centre of attention on our little terrace.

Bunkerday -in reprise Bunker Window by Juan Manuel Giraldo-. Art in the bunker is a mismatch at the yearly held Bunkerday. People walking around with torches to see details of the bunker are mostly WWII fanatics with absolutely no interest in art, which in itself is quite funny to experience
