Bunkerexhibition #16 – Concresco booklaunch by David Galjaard
David Galjaard, previously worked a summer job with us while studying at the KABK, the royal art academy in The Hague. Before he joined our team, he often cycled past on the other side of the water, thinking that our lawn was a private garden and we had lots of friends. Exactly the vibe we like to project. Our staff always starts out on ‘fair-weather’ shifts. After three weeks of rain in which there was no work for him, he dryly noted, ‘I like working here but I need to make money too’. Everyone on the team really enjoyed working with him.
Of course, he launched his beautiful book about bunkers in Albania at our very own bunker. If I remember correctly the ambassador of Albania was also present. For more world leaders visiting us, see ‘2018’ on this website for a picture of the Chinese prime minister. Unfortunately that picture wasn’t taken by David.
BOEKPRESENTATIE
Zaterdag 21 april | 16.00 uur | Bunkergalerie, Waterkant in Den Haag
Beste,
Hierbij nodig ik je van harte uit om op zaterdag 21 april vanaf 16:00 uur aanwezig te zijn bij de presentatie van mijn fotoboek Concresco. Deze zal plaatsvinden tijdens de opening om 17:00 uur van de gelijknamige tentoonstelling in de bunkergalerie van Waterkant in Den Haag.
De presentatie zal geopend worden door Gerda Mulder. Gerda Mulder is Hoofd Algemene Zaken bij het Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam. Zij bezoekt Albanië al sinds 1973 en heeft de bunkers nog gebouwd zien worden.
Hierna is er volop gelegeheid voor drank, eten en muziek tot 23.00 uur.
Kleed je voor de zekerheid warm aan!

Bunkerexhibition #17 – Perspective by Werc
With Perspective, WERC presented an interactive installation in a bunker in The Hague. The curator of Bunker v192 invited WERC to come to The Hague and make an autonomous installation with the bunker as the only guiding principle.
For this installation, WERC played with the perspective of the visitor in order to break through the walls of the bunker that were several meters thick. The starting principle was to experience a room without walls while standing in a bunker.
The artist collective WERC consists of Joachim Rümke, Olav Huizer, and Jelle Valk. It is located in Groningen.

Beste Alles aan Dewaterkant,
Van de zomer zag ik een verrassende installatie van WERC in de bunker bij Aandewaterkant. Graag wil ik de aandacht vestigen op een kunst/wetenschapproject in een Gentse bunker waar ik als tekenaar aan meedoe: een manifestatie waarbij 14 kunstenaars in het duister van een bunker tekenen. Ze zijn elders op het terrein zichtbaar via infraroodcamera’s. Er wordt een EEG-scan gemaakt van een van de kunstenaars. En er zijn lezingen van Rune Peitersen (kunstenaar), Rob Zwijnenberg (Universiteit Leiden) en Paul Boon (Universiteit Gent – neurowetenschappen). Vernissage van de tekeningen later op de avond. Dit alles vindt plaats op zaterdag 20 oktober in Gent – kruising Koopvaardijlaan/Afrikalaan (Dok Gent) vanaf 17.30 uur. Een volledig programma is te zien op www.darkroom-ghent.com. Het is een pilot en wellicht is er een vervolg mogelijk in andere bunkers….?

–Matthew Berrill comes specially from Ireland, a jazz musician with international experience
and provides his ex-students together on Saturday
a freestyle performance with traditional music from Ireland, the Balkans and Kleshmer influences.

As a reporter, Marcello Rubini – played by Marcello Mastroianni- is always looking for a scoop. He therefore spends his evenings in the Roman upper class. Rubini dreams of becoming a literary author, but he abandons those ideals for a career in the profitable sensation press. Although he understands its superficiality and immorality, he gets carried away in the decadent sweet life of the beau monde.The film won the Golden Palm in Cannes and the Oscar for best costumes in 1960. The film contains a scene in which a Christ statue is sent by helicopter is transported by air. The Vatican saw a parody of the return of Christ. In Spain, La dolce vita was banned until General Franco’s death in 1975. Thanks to this film, the term paparazzi was introduced in general language. When Redgrave dumps her husband the left-wing artist Warner for the down-to-earth but boring businessman Stephens, Warner loses it. He becomes insane, but in a pleasant, artistic way. He has a fantasy life in which he puts on a gorilla suit when he is frustrated. Warner is the ideal childlike anarchist, rebel and non-conformist in this well-directed satirical tragi comedy. Despite its pretensions, this film does not have to be taken too seriously. Warner goes crazy in a `poppy ‘way that was well picked up in the 1960s: His madness was seen as the ultimate irresponsibility towards those in power and therefore the only correct political attitude. The film became a hit with English and American students in the 1960s. Also known as Morgan! The War of the Worlds was a radio play broadcast as an episode of the American radio program Mercury Theater on the Air.
The episode was directed by Orson Welles, and was a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells’ science fiction novel The War of the Worlds (1898). The radio game was broadcast as a Halloween special
Welles wanted to make his radio play as realistic as possible. The 60-minute radio play therefore mainly consisted of news reports reporting the Martian invasion. This caused great panic among many listeners, who thought America was really being attacked. Welles became famous in one fell swoop.
Many listeners missed or ignored the intro to the radio play, which clearly explained that it was a made-up story. The threat of the upcoming World War II made many people think the news reports were real.
Both the radio play and the panic it caused have now become standard examples of mass hysteria.
Welles ’ editing is probably the most successful radio drama in history:
First there is a news flash about strange explosions on Mars.
Then a meteorite crashes into a village in New Jersey (USA).
A farm in the village has been wiped out
curious people walk to the place of disaster
to see what happens. A radio reporter dares to risk his life ….
