Bunkerexhibition #9 – Wildgroei Marieke van Diepen

We discovered Mariekes work at the graduation show of De Rietveld, the art academy in Amsterdam. I fell in love with an old window on which she drew another window. It reminded me of the windows of squats we lived in while young. I have a few art works depicting old windows in different shapes, forms and sizes. But this one I love the most.

Wildgroei -Overgrowth-was made in collaboration with Annelinde de Jong.

p.s. as many of her graduating peers, she initially valued the work above my budget. A few months later the price was reduced and the window was given to me as a Christmas present by Mario Attard, who I mentioned earlier, in the snippet about Pascale de Backer –Bunkerexhibition #7-.

Marieke knitted for a month and dressed the inside of the bunker in wool. A party was held in between the knit work. Only one string was broken.
