Bunkerexhibition #19 – Moving images, lamps and paintings by Marian Smit  Music: Constellations by Dorien Meijsing

Marian Smit shows in her video installations the possibilities and especially impossibilities of the mind and the human body. In the bunker she showed: Ophelia, a drowned woman between water lilies
and Utopia, a little girl trying to make a pirouette. Her lamps illuminated the bunker and her latex paintings.

Bunkerexhibition #20 – Light and shadow / Sense and nonsense in experimental movements Lobke Burgers

Illumination – Lobke Burgers

Lobke Burgers’ work (1978) is characterized by idiosyncratic, spatial experiments in which she uses movement, light and sound; from dancing shadows to wire sculptures in UV light. In 2012 we were impressed by her work on show in De Pont in Tilburg. And thought it might even perform better in the bunker. Lobke is inspired by everyday reality, its meaning and its nonsense. In addition, Lobke has a fascination for war. This was of course very appropriate in a bunker from WWII. Children loved her work, which is always a good indicator.

Her name Burgers was written on the side of her car and sometimes caused some confusion. When invited to festivals or events the parking attendants often guided her to the catering department instead of the artist entrance.

The installation of Juan Manual Giraldo had to change because of regulations by the municipality of The Hague. The view was the Rosarium through a camera placed in the grass, i.e. straight through the wall. Lion said, ‘As was the view before the bunker was built in 1943.’ Yes indeed.

De Stoelen van Ionesco – toneelgroep hans  

Barbara Gozens and Hans van Hechten were directed by Jules Terlingen performing”The Chairs” Ionesco called this piece a tragic farce. Written in 1952, the text appears to be very much alive more than half a century later. Not as farce but as an absurd sketch of the human shortage.

Cantal Bakker took me to the first viewing of Fietzeria, the film. Afraid I would have to see another pretentious badly made arty movie, I was pleasantly surprised to witness a genuine sweet story. A feelgood documentary. In between the lines you also sense the camera woman and the protagonist fall in love with each other, during their trip through The Netherlands. Later Renato called me to ask if they could pay me a visit. They brought Champagne and he told me he had proposed to Esther while they were surfing together in Brasil while both being on a high wave. She said yes.

Words fall short to describe Sandro Bruti, a more altruistic person is hard to find. Sharing is his middle name. Music, Whiskey or Pasta, all of the best quality. We are so very proud he frequently reinforces our team.

Tabass-co

I do not remember the first time Tabass-co held a party with us, but the parties became iconic and were held every year. Bootjesfeestjes/ Little boats party, they are called. We still receive messages asking when there is another one. Since the municipality of The Hague surprised us with two fines in 2025 of € 3000 each ! Bootjesfeestjes are now held in other locations around Scheveningen, which we think an honor but it also results in a decline in sales. Which we could have used to finance bunkerexhibitions.
